Handmade raku beads and pendants inspired by Steampunk, Science Fiction, Celtic knotwork and mythological imagery
In raku firing, pieces are removed from the kiln while still glowing-hot and placed into a reduction chamber filled with combustible material, like newspaper. The newspaper surrounding the pieces bursts into flame and is allowed to burn briefly, then smothered. The resulting reduction atmosphere changes the glazes, giving them metallic, irridescent or opalescent effects and, on some glazes, a fine crackle pattern. Glazes can vary wildly, even within the same firing and so the results are always unexpected and exciting.
All of our pieces are sealed with silicone grout sealer, ensuring that the metallic colors of the glazes will not fade over time. Wholesale prices are available on large orders and custom designs requests are welcome.
